Like all Ben Elton books I’ve read the ending was tinged with sad ending, one bem his This was my second attempt at reading this book. Finally the reinforcement of gender stereotypes – woman desperate for child, man skeptical and uncaring – were too much to bear. Well written, with some interesting sections that kept me reading. She was completely two-dimensional, flat as a caricature, with her depressing obsession about as luridly painted as a two dollar whore. What bben Ben doing writing Lucy? You can’t countenance that theory when the entire book is based on purely bfn diary entries they’ve both been writing for the entirety of the novel. Novels LOA Tears could flow at points. For example, while Lucy deals with the constant ‘probing’ of doctors with stoic pragmatism, Sam dreads the looming ‘legal tug’ he has been practising eltoon since puberty as only a man can.

And boy does Ben Elton dish it up a treat. Generally he writes in the third person to explain the story throughout.

At first I must admit to finding this a little difficult to get into – I’ve never been bsn bit fan of prolonged monologuing and introspection – but once I’d gotten used to each of Sam and Lucy’s “flow” I really started to innconceivable this book.

This was a very clever way of showing how differently people react to the same event but also the confusion when one person doesn’t understand why the other person reacts differently to them. Not a usual occurrence from other Elton books I’ve read.

But it’s too much too late, over-loading whatever sympathetic capabilities I possessed at that point and leading to a cruelly insensitive “meh” reaction on my part. I normally love Ben Elton’s writing, but this, for me, was the worst of the bunch.

Inconceiavble the most interesting thing about Inconceivable is the structure—it’s presented as alternating diary entries from a couple incomceivable are experiencing fertility issues.

Trotzdem mir Schreibstil und Charaktere sehr gefallen haben und mich oft zum Lachen brachten, fand ich das Buch anstrengend zu lesen und stellenweise langweilig. I must admit I was almost half resigned to giving up with the plotline, with the two-dimensional lead female character and her husband.

Ben Elton taps his personal career to produce a book centered around a couple working at the BBC. I respect the way in which Elton manipulated the two points of view to convincingly portray a couple’s malfunction of communication. The Hotel New Hampshire. Sam is a happy go lucky guy, but at the iinconceivable of the day he is “just a bloke,” willing to accept and jump-to, his wife’s every needs.
